Description
The Four Lanterns is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is a long, one and a half storey structure that features a thatched roof and weatherboard cladding, facing west. There are signs that the building was once subdivided. The house has a timber frame, with the south gable being plastered. It has a central chimney plan with a staircase located next to the stack. The steep thatched roof is hipped at the north end over a plastered extension, while the south end is gabled. The northern half of the roof has red tiles on the lower part of the front slope, which includes two gabled tiled dormers with two-light wooden casements. The southern half is fully thatched and features a swept two-light dormer at the eaves. The windows have been renewed and consist of small two-light and three-light wooden casements. There is an open gabled porch and a small single storey lean-to extension on the south end, which is plastered and tiled. The building is part of a group located on the east side of the road.
