Description
Wychcroft Cottages, formerly known as The Thatched Cottages, is a house that has been divided into two homes. It dates from the 17th century or earlier and features a long one-and-a-half storey structure with a thatched roof. The building has a timber frame that is weatherboarded over a brick base, with the northern front being plastered and colourwashed above a weatherboarded apron that rises to the ground floor window sills. The reed thatch has a scalloped ridge, and there are small areas of old red tile where the thatch has been cut back at the eaves for three irregularly spaced gabled dormers, which have either two or three lights. A single large central stack rises behind the ridge. At the rear, there is a shallow weatherboarded lean-to addition. The doors are plain plank, and No 1 features wooden two-light casement windows that have been renewed. There is a fire mark located under the eaves on the centre of the northern wall. No 2 has three-light 19th-century wooden casement windows with small panes.
