Description
Barnfield is a house dating from the early 18th century, which was extended in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and now pebbledashed, with an old red tiled roof at the rear and a slated roof at the front. The house is two storeys high and has an irregular four-window facade facing west, characterized by a steep gabled roof. There is a central chimney near the northern end and an external gable chimney at the southern end, flanked by rectangular projections. The front displays Arts and Crafts Style detailing, including flush sash windows with six-over-one panes. The entrance consists of a half-glazed front door with a window beside it, and a small paned door with bullions. The wooden doorcase is adorned with fluted pilasters, a frieze, and a flat moulded hood supported by shaped brackets. Attached to the northeast is a one-storey brick and tile outbuilding from the late 19th century, which fronts the lane, and it is terminated by a two-storey timber-framed stable that is weatherboarded and has a corrugated iron roof. This historic timber-framed house is part of a varied group in this area of the Conservation Area.
