Description

House. Built around 1692, possibly incorporating an earlier structure, with a rear extension added around the 18th century. The house is constructed of red brick with occasional blue headers and red brick arches. It has a steep, gabled roof covered in old red tiles. The house is two storeys and has attics, with three windows facing south and its gable towards the street, set behind a high red brick wall. The internal layout originally comprised two rooms, a central lobby, and end chimneys. A two-storey red brick rear extension was added in the 19th century. The front elevation features sash windows with 6/6 panes and flat, gauged arches. A projecting band runs along the first floor level; there are box eaves and two gabled dormers to the roof. Originally, there were two gable chimneys (the right-hand one was removed). The front door is a 6-panel raised and fielded door within a modern doorcase featuring pilasters and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. This is a small, historically significant Queen Anne brick farmhouse that has seen few alterations. It is prominently visible when approaching the village from the west and forms part of the group of buildings at the head of the High Street, within the Conservation Area.
