6/9 Widford Stores and Porch Cottage -

House, now shop and house. Later C17, altered in early C19. Timberframed plastered house on brickbase. Low pitched slate roof hipped to left. A long 2 storeys 4-window house formerly a wheelwrights house with workshop in S half (now Widford Stores) 2 room and end-chimney plan with large internal gable chimney at N. Formerly one and a half storeys it was raised to 2 full storeys and re-windowed and reroofed in early C19. Flushed box sash windows with moulded architraves on upper floor with 8/8 panes. Left hand window altered to small-paned 2-light casement similar to 2 Ground Floor windows in centre and at N end. 2-panel half- glazed door to shop with small Victorian display window to the left in the form of an elongated sash window. Modern door to right (Porch Cottage) recently moved from extreme right and replacing a window. Plastered soffit to eaves overhang. Continuous dripboard at 1st floor level. Chamfer and stopped axial beams and squared joists in Porch Cottage. Jowled posts and cambered tie beams in bedroom partitions. An historic timberframed house. Part of a varied group in the middle of the Conservation Area.
