Description
Richardson's Hardware is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 15th century and was refronted and extended in the 17th and 19th centuries. The building has a timber-framed core on the left, with brick in the center and right, all rendered and whitewashed. It features plain tiled roofs, with patterned tiles on the left pitch of the gable. The structure is two storeys high, with a gable at the left end and a smaller gable at the right, supported by corbelled eaves. There are stacks at the center of the rear and at the end.
The windows display mixed styles, including a horizontal sliding sash on the first floor left, a casement window in the center, and a 12-pane, 19th-century sash window on the right. There is an additional casement window on the first floor right. The ground floor features plate glass shop fronts on the left, center, and right, with a half-glazed door on the left end that is blocked, and another door on the left side of the right-hand gable.
Inside, there are ceiling frames and interior framing in the left-hand range. Evidence indicates that this part of the building was once the former cross wing of a hall house with two framed bays, which has since been rebuilt.
