Description

This is a row of cottages, originally one house, dating from the early 16th century, with a later 16th-century wing added to the rear. The front was refaced in the 18th century, and further extensions and restoration occurred in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed, with exposed framing visible at the rear, and whitewashed rendered infill. The ground floor on the left is whitewashed, the upper part is tile-hung, and the right side has colourwashed roughcast. The roofs are tiled, with a lower pitch on the left side.

The cottages have two storeys, with end piers on the left side, and a plat band above the ground floor. Brick dentil eaves are visible on Nos. 7 and 9. No. 5 has two three-light leaded casement windows on the first floor and two windows on the ground floor. There is a panelled front door, set under a 20th-century gabled porch supported by braced wooden supports. No. 7 has two 12-pane sash windows on the first floor, flanking a blocked window. It has a leaded casement window on the ground floor to the right, and a 20th-century bowed window to the left. A half-glazed, leaded door is on the right, set under a flat hood. No. 9 has one late 18th or early 19th-century 12-pane sash window on the first floor, and a 20th-century bowed window on the ground floor to the left, set under a bracketed flat hood. A wing projects at right angles to the rear, where a large, multi-flue ridge stack is located at the junction with the main range.
