Description
Park Cottage is a house located in Braughing village, dating from the early 18th century. The building features a timber frame that is roughcast, with the original southern end wall made of red brick in Flemish bond, which is now on the interior. The southern wing, which was added around 1971, is plastered to match the original structure, and the house is topped with steep old red tile roofs.
The two-storey house faces west and includes a southern crosswing, along with a single-storey gabled extension added in the 20th century to the north, which has a recessed porch. Originally, the house had a two-room plan with a large gable chimney on the south side and a substantial single-storey service room in a lean-to at the southern end. The chimney features decorative corbelling on the south side (now inside) and on the kneeler of the former gable parapet, with two diagonal shafts on top.
On the west front, the gabled crosswing projects to the right and contains a two-light casement window above a canted bay. The main range has two windows on the first floor and a canted bay with French windows on the right. The interior showcases exposed timbers and the original brickwork of the southern wall.
