Description

This house, now a shop with residential accommodation, likely originated in the late medieval period. It was extended to the front in the late 17th century, and a shopfront was inserted in the early 20th century. The building has a timber frame resting on a stuccoed plinth, with the front plastered and decorated with panelled pargetting. It is covered by a steep roof of old red tiles.

Originally constructed as a T-shaped house facing west, it features a projecting crosswing to the north end. A central chimney stands at the junction of the wings, with a rear lateral external chimney serving the south part. A parallel two-story lobby-entry was added in the 17th century, and the front extension creates a hipped northwest corner with the original crosswing, extending less to the south than the older rear range. A shopfront was established within the south portion of the 17th-century extension.

The west front has a six-panelled fielded door set into a raised area, accessed by steps, with a moulded doorcase and a large moulded cornice as a hood. Above are four two-light casement windows on the upper floor, and a three-light casement window to the left of the door. There are two windows on the north end. A projecting 20th-century shopfront, also accessed by steps, features a central doorway.
