Description
The bridge over the River Quin in Braughing village is a footbridge built in 1861, as indicated by raised lettering. It features a cast iron structure on brick abutments and has a wooden plank deck. The bridge spans approximately 7 meters and is characterized by openwork lattice girder parapets, each made from a single casting. The deeper bottom flange on each side displays the inscription: '1861 BARWELL & CO EAGLE FOUNDARY NORTHAMPTON 1861'. Each girder is supported at both ends by large quadrant openwork cast iron brackets, which have a circular design in the spandrel and are bolted to the underside of the bottom flange. Spacer bars at intervals also help support the deck of longitudinal planks. At each end of each girder, there are square panelled cast iron posts with moulded finials, along with 2-bar abutments. The railings are jointed to the outer face and are carried on moulded cast iron posts.
