Description

Causeway Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a stucco plinth. The ground floor on the east side is weatherboarded, and the north end is faced with red brick. Single-storey outbuildings are located at the northwest end, and are weatherboarded or brick. The roof is steep, covered in old red tiles, with a half-hip at the south end. The house is L-shaped and situated on the southwest corner of Fleece Lane, facing a lane to the east. There are two dormers at the eaves, each with a 2-light casement window containing small panes of glass. A pair of hooded doorways, with only the south door in current use, are flanked by windows with small panes. The north end formerly served as a shop. The south end has a 4-panel flush beaded door within a moulded frame, topped with a low pedimented hood supported by shaped brackets, along with a flush box sash window with a hood and 12/12 panes. A 2-light casement window is set within the gable above. There is a gabled tiled rear extension and a slated lean-to.
