Description
Maltsters Cottages is a block of four houses located in Braughing village, dating from the 17th century and renovated in the 19th century. The cottages are constructed with a timber frame and are weatherboarded, topped with steep old red tile roofs. They are two storeys high, sitting above a stucco sill, and face east. The design features a steep central gable and a lean-to tiled bracketed hood above each of the four doors. The arrangement is symmetrical, with each house having a central door flanked by two windows on each floor. The windows are flush 2-light casements, which have been renewed and feature small panes. The cottages also have very large red brick central chimney stacks with diagonal shafts. This picturesque group is situated by the ford on Maltings Lane.
