Description
House. Built in the early 18th century, it is a timber-frame building with a stuccoed plinth, roughcast rendering, and some weatherboarding on the north gable. The roof is of old red tiles in a gambrel style. The house is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and is set back from the road facing east. It originally had a two-room plan with a central chimney backing onto the entrance passage and a large lean-to on the south end. It has two windows on each floor, featuring three-light flush box sash windows with glazing bars. The front entrance is a four-panel door sheltered by a 19th-century tiled gable porch. Casement windows in the gables provide light to the attics. A small, former shop lean-to is located on the north end, with a pantiled roof, weatherboarded front, a 19th-century shop window, and a boarded door. The north side of the lean-to is a red brick wall. The building is a picturesque feature at a junction and was formerly the Bull and Magpie public house.
