Description

Numbers 16, 18, and 18A, along with outbuildings, are located along Fleece Lane in Braughing village. These buildings date from the early 18th century or earlier and were originally a single house that has since been divided into three properties. The main structure features a timber frame that is roughcast with a stucco plinth, while the outbuildings are dark weatherboarded. The roofs are covered with old red tiles.

The building is two storeys high and has a three-unit plan with a large central chimney positioned one-third from the north end. There is a shallow rear extension from the 19th century that has two gables and connects to an older rear wing at the northeast. Single-storey outbuildings extend to the rear along the lane.

The main façade faces west and includes four small flush box sash windows on the upper floor, each with moulded surrounds and 8/8 panes. Number 16 features the three southern windows and has a four-panel half-glazed door with a moulded surround and a pointed hood supported by shaped brackets beneath the second window. To the right of the door is a three-light casement window with a moulded projecting canopy, and to the left is a large flush box sash window with 6/6 panes. At the north corner, there is a small shop window with a six-panel moulded door (No 18). The north end wall of the building has a door (No 18A) similar to that of No 16, with one window on each floor to the left. The flush box sash windows on this side also have moulded surrounds, with the upper window featuring 8/8 small panes and the lower window having 10/10 panes along with four-panelled external shutters. There are two doors leading into the outbuildings.
