Description
This is a house, formerly a public house and now divided into two properties, dating from the 17th century or earlier. The front of the building is timber-framed and roughcast, with a stucco sill and the lower portion faced in whitewashed brick. The roof is steeply pitched, covered in old red tiles, half-hipped with a gabled rear wing (number 24) on the southeast side. A slate-roofed, gambrel-shaped single-storey extension projects to the rear of the wing, and another single-storey extension, timber-framed and roughcast with weatherboarded detailing, is located to the north. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan, with a rear lateral chimney positioned at the junction of the wings.
The front range is composed of three bays, with a door set to the south. There are three windows on the first floor. The windows are 3-light flush casements. The ground floor has a 3-light sliding casement to the right of the door, and a 5-light casement to the north part. The door is within a pilastered doorcase and features a panelled and half-glazed door with a moulded hood supported by elaborate shaped brackets.
The rear wing (number 24), which is two storeys high, features a 3-light sliding casement above a canted bow oriel window on the south side to the left of a plank door with three small lights and a flat hood on shaped brackets. A 2-light Yorkshire sliding window with small panes is located to the right.
