Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of houses, now combined into a single dwelling, located on London Road, Saffron Walden. The houses are built of stucco, with a hipped slate roof and rendered stacks at the front and rear. The architectural style is neo-classical. Each house originally had two bays, and the pair as a whole has two storeys. A band runs along the ground floor, and another along the first floor. Doorcases, featuring pilasters and cornices, are located at each end of the front elevation. The doorcase on the right contains a later half-glazed door, while the left doorcase is blocked and contains a small-paned window. Windows are set within segmental arched recesses, and have overhanging eaves. Most windows are 16-pane sashes, although the ground floor window on the right and the first-floor window at the right end have been replaced with pairs of single-light windows. The rear elevation has French doors in the central ground floor bays, a blocked recess on the ground floor right, and a 12-pane sash on the ground floor left.
