Description

An early 18th-century pair of attached houses, altered in the early 19th century. They are built of stucco, with brick gable stacks and a pantile roof. The houses have a double-depth plan, and are arranged over three storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. Pilaster strips define the corners and the central bay, rising to coved eaves with gable details. The central paired doorways have semicircular arches, raised surrounds, fanlights containing five panes of glass, and six-panel doors. The windows are mostly narrow sashes with six panes per window, set in exposed frames; No. 30 has an eight/eight-pane sash on the ground floor, a blank window above the central doorway, and 20th-century casements on the second floor. There are two hipped dormers at each house, with slate roofs on No.32. Original rear casements remain. The interior includes a fully panelled front room with raised panels, a cornice, panelled shutters with window seats, and a panelling partition to the entrance hall. A dogleg staircase has an uncut string, turned balusters, square panelled newels, and a moulded rail that intersects the string. There are also two-panel doors and a flagged hall. Attached to the front are wrought-iron area railings.
