Description

Numbers 43 to 49 (odd) on St Michael's Hill is a terrace of four houses built in the late 18th century. The houses are constructed of brick with limestone dressings, featuring brick stacks and a pantile roof. They have a double-depth plan and are designed in the mid Georgian style. The left pair of houses has four storeys, while the right pair has three storeys and a basement, with each house having a two-window range.

The terrace is connected by a continuous cyma-moulded parapet coping that ramps up over No. 45. The doors on the right have segmental brick arches, while all but No. 45 have flat-headed doors. No. 49 features a cornice, and No. 45 has a four-pane overlight, whereas No. 43 has three panes, both with six-panel doors. No. 49 also has a wide, two-storey shallow canted bay, No. 47 has a canted ground-floor bay, and Nos. 45 and 43 have canted first-floor oriels. The windows have segmental arches with reveals, 6/6-pane sashes, and 3/3 panes on the third floor. Notably, No. 49 has a tripartite second-floor early 19th-century sash.

The interior of the houses was largely remodelled around 1970, converting Nos. 43 to 51 into a single residence. The terrace also includes attached front area railings.
