Description
85 and 87 Wolborough Street is a pair of houses, likely once a single residence, built in the early 19th century. They are finished in painted stucco with a slate roof featuring tall rendered stacks at the gable ends and three small gabled dormers with slate-hung cheeks and two-light casement windows. The houses have a double-depth plan and stand two storeys high with an attic.
The exterior is symmetrical with a three-window range; No. 85 on the left has incised stucco and one window, while No. 87 has two windows. There is a moulded eaves cornice and thin forward frames for the 6/6-pane sash windows. A plat band has been removed from No. 85. The paired doors, set back with overlights, show distinct features: No. 85 boasts an early 19th-century doorcase with a two-pane overlight, zig-zag moulding on the lintel, and unique mouldings on the door panels. In contrast, the door panels of No. 87 have been boarded over in the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
