Description
27 and 28 Teign Street are two houses built in the early 19th century. They feature incised painted stucco and have a continuous steeply-pitched hipped slate roof with three dormers, as well as ridge stacks on the left side, a party wall, and a right gable end. The houses are two storeys high with attics and each has a symmetrical three-window arrangement. A continuous modillion cornice runs along the top.
No. 27, located on the right, has raised and fielded panels on a six-panel door, which includes a narrow overlight and is framed by pilasters and an entablature. This doorcase is flanked by 8/8-pane sash windows. The first-floor window to the right and a 6/6-pane sash window above the door are 20th-century additions with horns. There are two dormers with 20th-century windows.
No. 28 is similar but features pilasters with noticeable entasis, panelled reveals and soffit, and a dentil cornice on the doorcase. Above the door, there is a mid-19th-century window with plate-glass sashes and engraved coloured glass in the margin panes, while the other windows are original 8/8-pane sashes. The interiors have not been inspected.
