Description

Two attached houses stand on Dawlish Street in Teignmouth. They were built in the early 19th century. The houses are rendered with painted stucco and have a continuous asbestos tile roof that was installed in the early 20th century, with rendered stacks on the left gable end and party walls. The houses originally had double-depth plans.

The exterior is two storeys high, with an attic to No. 25 on the left. Each house has a two-window front. The first floor windows are 20th century replacements. No. 25 features a 20th-century door set within an early 19th century Regency doorcase, which has fluted pilasters, a narrow cornice to an entablature with small raised diamond shapes at the ends, and a restored pediment. To the left of the door is a similar architrave framing a 20th-century window, which formerly held a 6/6-pane sash. To the right is a similar architrave enclosing a bowed 8/8-pane sash window. A central 20th-century attic window is set within a wide gabled half-dormer, likely dating back to the early 20th century. No. 26 has a similar bow window on the left side, with other windows being late 20th-century replacements. The original early 19th-century six-panel door has raised panels in the centre and glazing at the top. The doorcase features sunken panels in the pilasters and a narrow cornice to the entablature. The rear of No. 25 has a pitched roof covering a square turret located at the northeast corner. The rear of No. 26 includes a two-storey outshut.

The interiors were not inspected during the listing process.
