Description

Vine Cottage is a house dating from the mid-19th century, likely a remodelling of an older structure. It features painted incised stucco with painted stone dressings and a slate-hung right return. The building has a shallow-pitched, forward-facing gabled roof and a brick stack on the right wall. The plan is double-depth with a 20th-century rear extension.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a one-window range. The slightly shouldered architraves have pedimented lintels that extend beyond the jambs. There are two 3/6-pane sash windows on the second floor, and a larger central 6/6-pane sash window on both the first and ground floors, which may have originally been wider 8/8-pane sashes. A 20th-century door is located to the left. The left return features a horizontal window with eight small panes on the ground floor, while the rear of the building has been rebuilt.

Inside, the horizontal window in the left return illuminates a through passage. There is an 18th-century architrave at the rear of the front room, and a very deep chimney-breast on the right, which likely served a former open fire.
