Description

Southwark is a house dating from the mid-19th century, with few later alterations. It is constructed of stone rubble that has been stuccoed and lined out. The building has a two-span slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, featuring gable end stacks at both the front and rear ranges, which have rendered shafts. The plan is a double depth layout, with a central entrance leading to a stair hall and principal rooms located to the front right and left, each heated by a gable end stack. The service rooms are located at the rear and are also heated by gable end stacks. There is a two-storey rear range to the left in an L-plan, which provides additional service rooms.

The exterior is two storeys high, set on a plinth, and features a symmetrical three-window range, all of which have 19th-century 16-pane sashes in plain reveals. The central doorway is flanked by pilasters and has a cornice on consoles, with a 1930s half-glazed door and overlight. The left side of the building is rendered.

The interior has not been fully inspected, but each principal room at the front includes a plain black marble chimneypiece. The room on the right has a 16-pane sash window at the rear with pilasters, which may have originally been an external wall.
