Description

Rose Cottage is an early 19th century house located on Fore Street, Cargreen. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble, with an asbestos slate roof and rendered stacks to each side and the rear left. The house has a double-depth plan, with a central entrance leading to principal rooms at the front and shallower service rooms to the rear.

The two-storey, symmetrical front elevation has three windows. Upper windows are 16-pane sashes to the right and left, and a 12-pane sash centrally, all set within plain raised architraves. The ground floor features a central half-glazed door, a 20-pane sash window to the right in a plain raised architrave, and a 20th century French window to the left. A conservatory is attached to the front left, enclosing the front door. A small 20th century addition is on the right side, featuring a 20th century window at ground floor and a 2-light casement at first floor. The rear elevation has a 2-light casement at first floor to the right and left, and two central single lights. Ground floor rear features a central door and a 2-light casement to the left. A small, single-storey wash house is attached to the right. The interior has not been inspected, but original joinery may be present.
