Description

Eastcliff Cottage is a house located on a curved corner site in Teignmouth, dating from the early 19th century. It features painted render and a hipped slate roof with a chimney stack on the left end. The building has a three-unit plan and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range.

The entrance, positioned to the right of centre, has a doorcase that includes reeded pilasters, simple caps, and a moulded cornice above a shallow overlight with margin panes and a horizontal diamond-shaped pane in the centre. To the right of the door is a 6/6-pane sash window set in a moulded forward frame, below a canted bay that extends from the first and second floors, featuring similar windows and flanking 4/4-pane sashes. The wall above the door is blank on the first floor, while on the second floor it jetties out from the curved front to connect with the right-hand range. There are 20th-century sashes to the far left of the door and an original 8/8-pane sash window on the ground floor. The wall between the far left-hand windows and the door is also blank. The left side of the building is blank, and the rear has late 19th-century horned 2/2-pane sashes along with 20th-century windows.

The interior has not been inspected but is reported to retain some original features. The facade is notable for its upper-floor bays, which is an unusual characteristic in Teignmouth but common in other coastal towns of the early 19th century, such as Weymouth.
