Description
34 and 35 Teign Street is a house and shop that underwent mid-19th century refronting of a former mid-18th century two-unit cottage, now divided into two houses. The building features painted stucco and a continuous slate roof with a rendered stack at the left rear gable end.
The exterior is two storeys high, with each unit having a one-window range. The windows have moulded architraves. No. 34, on the right, has a 4/4-pane sash window on the first floor above a mid-19th century shop front that includes a moulded cornice on the fascia, a half-glazed four-panel door with an overlight to the left, and a shop window to the right consisting of two rows of five panes, with the far-right panes angled backward. The front range of the right return is blank. The rear range has 20th-century windows and a door. No. 35, on the left, has 20th-century windows, a 19th-century four-panel door to the right, and a truncated stack to the left.
Inside, No. 34 features a cob wall between the two ranges; the rear room has a boxed-in crossbeam, and the stack rises from this room. No. 35 was not inspected.
