Description
No. 81 High Street is a building that dates back to around 1800 and was originally two cottages, now converted into a house. It features a peg-tiled roof and has been colourwashed in brick. The building has a rectangular plan and stands two storeys tall with a high semi-basement.
The front (south) elevation includes a doorway that was originally set under a wide segmental arch, although one side of the arch is now blocked. The entrance is approached by a double flight of stone steps and has a door with four flush panels. There are two ranges of windows on both the ground and first floors, each with wedge lintels that have been painted. The windows are sliding sashes with glazing bars, arranged in a 4x3 pane configuration. On either side of the steps, there is a 3x3 paned casement window, and to the west, there is a boarded door leading to the basement area. The east and west end elevations are blank, while the rear of the building features a two-storey integral lean-to.
