Description

This is a house dating to around 1870, originally a gardener’s cottage for the Gibson Estate. It is constructed of red brick with random burnt headers and black pointing, and has a roof of blue and red fishscale clay tiles arranged in a diaper pattern, topped with terracotta cresting. A ridge stack is present on the left side, featuring a moulded cornice and chamfered corners.

The house has an L-shaped plan, with two bays and a gabled wing projecting towards the front on the left. A chamfered plinth runs around the base. The front entrance is on the right side, sheltered by a label with a chamfered brick architrave, and features a vertically boarded door with original ironmongery. A ground floor canted bay to the left has a hipped roof of fishscale tiles and a moulded cornice, with iron casement windows in timber surrounds and lozenge glazing, along with splayed brick sills. A two-light window on the first floor has a similar label, casement, and sill detailing. Side windows mirror this design. A blank window is visible on the first floor of the right-side gable wall.

A brick wall runs along the right side, with a half-round brick coping that ramps up to a gate pier approximately 3.3 meters high, topped with a painted stone cap. A boundary wall faces the High Street, featuring a chamfered plinth and rendered brick coping. A pier approximately 2 meters high stands on the right side, also with a painted stone cap. The gate itself is timber, with a vertically boarded lower section and cast-iron rails above, finished with decorative finials.
