Description

The war memorial is located on the pavement at the corner of High Street and Audley Road in Saffron Walden. It was erected in 1921 and is made of Portland stone. The memorial stands 7.7 meters high and features an octagonal shaft with entasis, topped by a cross potent. It has a battered cruciform base, with re-entrant angles that sweep out to an octagonal stepped plinth. The design includes projecting hoods, and the base facets display bronze commemorative plaques and heraldic wreaths, along with inlaid names on the upper steps.
