Description

No. 55 Audley Road is a house from the early 19th century, constructed of red brick with a hipped slate roof and a rectangular plan. It stands two storeys tall and features a symmetrical front elevation with three windows. The roof has deep eaves and stacks at the outer walls. The central front door is set within a segmental arched recess with voussoirs and is topped by a 20th-century segmental arched projecting canopy supported by shaped brackets and fluted pilasters. The door itself consists of six recessed panels. The windows on either side of the door also have segmental heads. On the first floor, the windows are in rectangular wooden frames, all of which are sashes with horns.

At the west end of the house, there is a ground floor lean-to with a round window. The rear elevation features a two-storey 20th-century addition made of rendered brick, but an old red brick stack at the eastern end suggests that the house was originally of an L-plan. There is a central doorway on the rear, with a door that has two upper glazed panels. To the west, there is a triple window with glazing bars arranged in a pattern of one by four, four by four, and one by four panes, and to the east, there is a round window. On the first floor, there are three similar sash windows, each with three by four panes. The west side elevation includes a continuous ground floor 20th-century lean-to that extends across the rear addition, featuring one first floor sash window with a moulded architrave and one ground floor paired sash window in the lean-to, both with three by four panes.
