Description

A pair of houses dating from the late 17th century, located on the south side of Stortford Road in Great Dunmow. The houses are timber-framed and have been plastered, with a gabled roof covered in peg tiles. There is a single-storey, gabled, peg-tile roofed rear extension, a continuous rear outshot, and a probable 18th-century extension bay on the east end. The front elevation features three mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights on each floor. A gable-end stack is located on the west end, and a large, tapering stack rises above the rear wall. The houses contain an inglenook fireplace. Two dormers are present in the front roof slope, each containing cast iron leaded light windows with segmental tops. The houses are originally of two bays and constructed largely of reused medieval timbers.
