Description
Oak Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a thatched roof that is hipped at the south end and half hipped on the north end facing the road. The building has two storeys and features 20th-century leaded light casements. There is a flat-roofed 20th-century extension on the south and west sides, along with a small, central ridge line stack.
Inside, the cottage likely has a small open hall, characterized by an arch-braced storey post without jowls and heavy 'V' struts that support the side purlin roof. The structure includes hide spaced large studs, though these are interrupted by straight bracing. The south end of the cottage retains what is likely the original floor. There are slight traces of a former timber chimney stack that was removed in the 1970s.
