Description
The barn to the east of Windells is a late 17th-century structure that features a timber frame and is covered in black weatherboarding, topped with a gabled thatched roof. It is five bays long and has a midstrey facing west. The original tie-beam arch-braces have been replaced with large hanging-knees that are secured by forelock bolts. The roof includes cambered collars and side purlins, with thin angle ties connecting to the midstrey top-plates. There are no side-girts, and it has primary wind bracing along with re-used rafters that have a flat section. Additionally, one bay was added to both the east and west ends during the 18th century.
