PRESTON PRESTON HILL West barn at Preston Hill

Barn. C17. Timber frame on low brick sill, dark weatherboarded with steep pitched roof now slated. A tall 3-bays barn facing E with lean-to roofed porch in middle. Step-jowled posts with straight braces to cambered tie-beams. Clasped purlin roof with 2 purlins to each slope. The upper carried on a high collar: the lower on straight inclined queen-posts. Reverse curved wind-braces at gable ends, and 2 collars to gable trusses. Straight tension braces in gables and end bays. Face-halved bladed scarf joints in wallplate over posts.
