Description
Crunells Green Cottage is a pair of semi-detached houses that have been combined into one dwelling. The building features a plaster plaque inscribed with 'JBW 1905', indicating it was associated with John Barrington White of Temple Dinsley. Originally built as estate houses, one served as a constable's residence with a lock-up in the attached outhouse at the southeast. The structure has a tall red brick plinth in stretcher bond, with roughcast above and a dark weatherboarded triangle on the front gable. It boasts steep old red tile roofs and a symmetrical design with two storeys and attics, highlighted by a high central gable at the front. The first floor jetties out and is adorned with a prominent elm drip-board. The boarded gable projects slightly at the front and further at the sides. Each side features a catslide continuation of the roof with coved eaves leading to side outshuts, which have entrances. There is a low single-storey wing projecting from the rear on each side, each with a gable chimney that has a corbelled top. A large central stack contains six flues. The attic includes two small casement windows in the gable, while the first floor has two one-over-one casements with an eared framed plaster plaque between them, flanked by two cross windows with small panes. There are also two segmental hooded stair windows on each side. The building features good moulded plank doors throughout and a flat hood supported by long shaped brackets above the front doors. Crunells Green Cottage is included for its group value.
