House. Late medieval open hall house, chimney stack and floors inserted in early C17, front lean-to extension C18, S end extension 1970s. Timber frame, roughcast with steep old red tiled roof carried down as catslide over front extension. A 16 storeys house facing E with canted bay window with hipped tiled roof to left of door and lean-to red brick extension on right. A 3-lights and single-light box dormer at eaves. Boarded door under flat hood on shaped brackets. Large internal chimney, with corbelled cap, a third from N end. Small projecting S gable stack flanked by a window on each side on each floor. Interior has exposed frame, axial beams. Fragmentary evidence of a 2-bays open hall with smoke blackened rafters remaining. House was presumably larger. Bar and hollow stops to inserted beam in N room similar to stops on lintels to back-to-back fireplaces in stack built around the central truss. Formerly called Hill Farm Cottage. (RCHM Typescript).
