Description

St. Martin's Place is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a brick front added around 1700. The west bay was cased in the 19th century. It features a timber frame and tile-hung gable at the west end, which is cased in thin red brick arranged in an irregular Flemish bond. The western part of the house is built in regular red brickwork. This 1½-storey house has a three-cell layout with an internal chimney and a lobby-entry plan, facing south, and the chimney is located a third of the way from the eastern end. There is a lean-to brick extension at the west end, which is slated.

The house has three windows across the front, with two gabled dormer windows at the eaves on the south side. Above the segmental window arches, there is a plat-band, and the windows are fitted with two-light flush small-pane casements that have been renewed to be wider. To the left of the entrance, there is a small two-over-one casement above the plat-band, which likely lights a staircase. The T-shaped chimney has a corbelled cap and is aligned with a four-panel ovolo-moulded and fielded door, where the top panels have been glazed. This door is set in a heavy frame and is sheltered by a tiled gabled timber porch. Inside, the lobby features exposed joists and beams.
