Description
The East Barn at Fairclough Hall Farm is a 17th-century barn located on the east side of the farmstead, facing west. It features a timber frame resting on a low brick sill, with dark weatherboarding and a steeply pitched roof that is currently covered in corrugated asbestos, although it is said to have been thatched in the past. The barn has five bays and includes central double doors, as well as a central rear outshut with a catslide roof in the same bay. Architectural details include jowled posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, a mid-height rail that is jointed in-line, and straight braces supporting the tie-beams. Each roofslope has two purlins, with the upper purlin clasped by a high collar and the lower purlin butt-jointed to the principals.
