Description
Dane End Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a 19th-century northern outshut. It features a timber frame construction, roughcast exterior, and the ground floor is partly clad in brick. The cottage has a steeply pitched tile roof that extends over the northern extension. It is a small, two-storey house set back from the road, accessible via a track from the east gable. The entrance includes a plank door with a moulded surround. To the left of the door is a three-light casement window, and to the right, there is a two-light window in the outshut. A very large external brick chimney with offsets is located on the south side, serving the eastern room, while a later, smaller external chimney is found on the south side of the western end. Inside, the cottage features jowled posts and a clasped-purlin roof. There are two cross-beams in the eastern room and an axial beam in the western room, with a staircase rising in the outshut next to the partition.
