Description

Dane End Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with a south front made of 18th-century brick and 19th-century windows. The building features a timber frame that is roughcast, a red brick south front, and a steep hipped roof covered in old red tiles. It is a tall, rectangular, two-storey structure with a cellar and attics, designed in the Queen Anne style with a double-pile plan. The house has two large mid-wall chimneys and is situated on an elevated position facing south at the northeast of the farmstead.

The symmetrical south front has five windows on the first floor, a projecting eaves band, gauged flat arches, four windows on the ground floor, and a central entrance. The recessed sash windows on the first floor have 3/3 panes, while those on the ground floor have 6/6 panes. The entrance features a moulded doorcase with a swelled frieze, shaped brackets with guttae, and a flat hood. The door is made of six fielded panels and includes a fanlight.

The older symmetrical north front has a deep plaster eaves cove, three gabled dormers on the roofslope, and three windows on each floor. The entrance is off-centre to the right of the central window, featuring three-light flush casement windows with drips. The door here is a six-panel flush-beaded design, with the top two panels glazed, and it has a triangular hood supported by shaped brackets. To the east, there is a plank door leading to a rear room, which has a moulded flat hood on brackets. Additionally, there is a sun fire insurance plaque numbered 135941 and an external bell located under the eaves on the west side.
