Description
This is a 17th-century barn located to the east of the farmhouse at Tilekiln Farm. It features a timber frame set on a tarred brick sill and is covered in dark weatherboarding. The barn has a half-hipped steep roof that is currently clad in corrugated iron, with a projecting lean-to porch on the east side. The structure consists of five tall bays and has opposed double doors in the middle bay. Notable architectural details include jowled posts with a hollow chamfer at the chin of the jowl, a mid-height rail, long straight tension braces, and long straight braces connecting to the cambered tie-beams. Each roofslope is supported by one purlin carried on inclined straight queen-posts. Additionally, there is a face halved bladed scarf joint in the wallplate at the mid-bay.
