Description
The barn at Warrensgreen Farm is a 17th-century structure featuring a timber frame set on a red brick sill. It is covered in dark weatherboarding and has a steep half-hipped roof that is currently covered with gap-slating. This tall barn consists of three bays and is located to the north of a group of farm buildings, facing south into the yard. The southern side has double doors in the middle bay. Architectural details include heavy jowled posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, a staggered mid-height rail, straight tension braces, and long curved braces supporting the cambered tie-beams. The roof is designed with clasped purlins, with one purlin on each slope supported by inclined straight queen-posts that have enlarged heads. There are also added long straight wind-braces within the plane of the roof. The barn features thin spars, suggesting it may have originally been thatched, and includes a raised boarded threshing floor in the western bay.
