Description
The South Barn at Marlin Chapel Farm is an early 17th-century barn constructed with a timber frame on a brick plinth. It is covered in dark weatherboarding and features a steep red tiled roof. The barn has three tall bays facing south, with double doors located in the middle bay and a wide winnowing door at the rear. The bay-posts have stepped jowls, while the mid-bay posts are unjowled, and there is a half-height rail staggered between the posts. Long straight braces support the tie-beams. Each slope of the roof has two purlins; the upper purlin is clasped by a collar and principal, while the lower is butt jointed in a staggered line. Heavy inclined struts are present at the lower angles of the trusses, and straight wind-braces are attached to the upper purlins. The front wallplate features a squint-butted scarf joint. The farmhouse on the property is not of special interest.
