Description
The North Barn at Wilstone Little Farm is a barn dating from the mid-17th century. It features a timber frame set on a tarred brick sill and is covered in dark weatherboarding. The barn has a steep half-hipped roof that is currently clad in corrugated iron. It is a tall structure with five bays, facing south, and includes double doors in the middle bay along with a small winnowing door on the northern side. There are high pitching doors on the southern side for the side bays. The barn's construction includes step-jowled posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, staggered mid-height rails, and slender curved braces supporting irregular tie-beams. The roof has segmental curved collars and long thin queen-struts, with one purlin on each slope. Above the rail, there are thin curved tension braces, and the barn features thin rafters intended for thatch. Long straight wind-braces are present in the end bays, and long splayed scarf joints connect the posts in the wallplates and purlins.
