Description

Paddock Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with restorations and extensions made in the early 20th century. The upper floor at the front features an exposed timber frame with plastered infill panels, while the rest of the building is roughcast, except for the south gable which is tile-hung. The roof is made of old red tiles. The house is two stories tall and three windows wide, facing east. It has a tall external chimney on the north gable, which is now roughcast, and a large chimney on the south part of the rear wall. There is a single-storey tiled extension at the south end, a single-storey half-hipped tiled rear wing at the northwest, and a decorative conservatory attached to the west end of the extension. The first floor is unusually lofty, likely due to the heightening of the front wallhead. The east front may have originally jettied and then been underbuilt. The building features small convex curved tension braces at the corners, wide-spaced timbers, jowled posts, and a squint-butted scarf joint in the bressumer.
