Description
The property at 8 and 9 Chapel End Lane comprises two houses, originally a single dwelling built in the 17th century and altered in the 18th century. The timber frame was later encased in red brick, with a distinctive chequer pattern of black headers to the western portion of the front. The roof is steeply pitched and thatched, with a half-hip at the east end, incorporating old red tiled dormers and a rear wing to the northeast. The building is an irregular, picturesque one-and-a-half storeys in height, facing south. The thatch extends over the projecting western end, featuring an eyebrow dormer at the eaves, along with two gabled dormers set within small areas of tiling. A large internal chimney is located a third of the way from the east end. There are four windows along the front, each with 2-light flush casements. The timber frame is exposed, featuring two small windows in the west gable. A large external brick chimney is present at the east end, and there is a smaller, two-storey timber-framed rear wing. An internal chimney is found within the west gable.
