Description
This is a milepost located on the towpath near Wilstone, dating from 1896 and associated with the Grand Junction Canal Company. It indicates the distance along the Aylesbury Arm. The milepost is made of cast iron and is painted. It features raised lettering on the back that reads 'LONDON & LANKASHIRE/ ELECTRICAL & GENL/ENGINEERING CO LIMITED/LONDON'. The design includes a small rectangular upright plate with rounded corners and a raised bead along the edge, with the figure '1' in relief at the center. The plate is cast as part of a T-section iron post, which originally had the maker's name on each half of the back. This milepost replaced earlier stone mileposts in 1896.
