Description

This milepost, located on the towpath between Bridges 46 and 47 of the Grand Union Canal, was made around 1893. It is constructed from cast iron and features a rectangular plate with the inscription: "GJC Co LEICSTER 23 MILES." The milepost marks the distance along the Leicester line of the Grand Junction Canal, which was established between 1893 and 1894, following the earlier Old Grand Union Canal built from 1810 to 1814. This milepost is part of a series along the canal.
