Description

The Old House is a house with a 17th-century core, significantly altered and dated 1712. It is timber-framed, featuring a post-and-truss construction with brick infill set on a rubble plinth. The roof is covered in Welsh slate. The house is two stories high and has seven bays of uneven sizes, displaying continuous vertical posts, some arched bracing, and two- and three-rail details. A centrally placed doorway is flanked by two-light casement windows. The right-hand bay is wider and retains only the wallplate of the original timbering. This bay is constructed of 18th-century brickwork with dark headers and features a blocked door to the left, with a three-light casement window beyond on each floor. The brick panel infill is dated with blue headers reading "1712" and bears the initials "TBD". Axial and gable stacks rise from the roof. A range of stabling and other structures forms a rear wing, which is partially 18th century. Attached to the east is a length of garden wall dating to the 18th century, featuring a mud and cobble plinth and pantiled coping.
