Description
This is a milepost located approximately 47 meters east of bridge number 62 on the Grand Union Canal. It is made of iron and dates from the late 19th century to early 20th century. The milepost is square in shape and features painted white lettering on a black background. It is inscribed with the following: "GJC CO MARKET HARBORO 5½ MILES LEICESTER 18 MILES BRAUNSTON 27½ MILES." On the reverse side, it has the inscription: "LONDON AND LANCASHIRE ELECTRICAL AND GEN ENGINEERING CO LIMITED LONDON." The Grand Union Canal, which this milepost is associated with, was engineered by Benjamin Bevan and completed in 1814.
